Overview
Email outreach is a powerful tool, but without proper practices, it can backfire by affecting your sender reputation and deliverability. Below, we’ll walk you through the best practices to ensure your email campaigns remain effective and compliant while respecting email limits.
What Are Sending Limits?
Sending limits are the maximum number of emails your email service provider (ESP) allows you to send from your mailbox per day and hour.
Email limits are designed to prevent users from sending too many emails within a short period, which can lead to spam complaints or being flagged by email providers. By adhering to these limits, you can:
Maintain your sender reputation.
Increase the likelihood of emails reaching recipients' inboxes.
Ensure compliance with email regulations.
Email Service Provider Limits
Lusha Engage doesn’t send emails on your behalf. Instead, emails are sent via the mailbox you connect to Lusha, such as Gmail or Microsoft accounts. Each email service provider (ESP) enforces specific daily and hourly sending limits, which are influenced by various factors, including your sending history.
Key Factors to Consider:
Mailbox Age: Mature domains (older mailboxes) typically have higher sending limits compared to younger ones, as they are seen as more trustworthy by ESPs.
Sending History: If you have a history of consistent, high-quality email activity with low bounce and spam rates, your ESP is likely to permit higher limits. Conversely, erratic or poor sending behavior can result in the need of stricter thresholds.
Content and Recipients: Sending overly promotional emails or targeting large numbers of unfamiliar recipients can trigger spam filters.
To ensure compliance and optimize your outreach:
Start with lower volumes for younger domains or new mailboxes to build trust over time.
Gradually increase sending volumes as your domain gains reputation through consistent, quality email activity.
Refer to your ESP’s official documentation for guidance:
By understanding and respecting your ESP’s limits, you can safeguard your sender reputation and maximize deliverability.
Lusha Engage Sending Limits
Lusha Engage provides an additional safeguard to help you adhere to best practices and avoid penalties from your ESP. You can configure email limits directly in Lusha to align with your outreach goals.
Recommended Limits:
Start with max 50 emails per day and 6 emails per hour. (Take into account that these emails will be evenly distributed throughout the hour, ensuring consistent intervals between each send to maintain a natural and steady sending pattern).
💡 Note: For young or newly established domains, we recommend beginning with even lower email volumes, such as 20–30 emails per day, to gradually build trust with email providers. Increase your sending activity as your domain gains a stronger reputation.
Monitor performance metrics such as bounce rates and reply rates regularly.
If necessary, gradually increase limits only when you have:
A reply rate of 5% or higher.
A strong domain reputation.
⚠️ Important: Your email provider’s limits apply to all emails sent from your mailbox, not just those sent through Lusha Engage. If you use your mailbox actively outside of Lusha, consider lowering your Lusha sending limits to avoid disruptions.
Editing Sending Limits in Lusha
To access and edit sending limits:
Launch Lusha Engage and click on 'Settings'.
Review the recommended daily and hourly limits displayed.
3. To make adjustments, edit the fields and click 'Save'.
💡 Don’t forget best practices: Less is more! Lower sending limits typically result in higher deliverability rates. While you can customize limits, we strongly recommend staying within the default settings to maintain your domain reputation and avoid being flagged by your ESP.
What Happens When I Hit My Limits in Lusha?
If you reach your daily sending limits in Lusha, the system has built-in mechanisms to ensure a smooth continuation of your campaigns without compromising your account. Here’s what happens:
Lusha will notify you via email when you’ve reached your daily sending limit.
Any remaining emails will be automatically rescheduled to the next available time slot, adhering to the sequence schedule.
If you reach your hourly sending limits in Lusha, the remaining emails will be rescheduled to the next hour.
What Happens When My Email Provider Limits or Suspends My Account?
If your email service provider suspends or rate limits your email account, it means you've sent too much underperforming content or too many emails per day or hour. If this occurs:
Immediately lower your sending limits in Lusha Engage.
Analyze sequence performance to identify emails with high bounce or spam rates.
Revise problematic email content to improve engagement.
Consult your system administrator to resolve the issue.
Follow any additional steps required by your email provider to restore your account.
